BILASPUR
Bilaspur happens to be the first planned hiss town in the country. Receding waters of Gobind Sagar Lake in winters dramatically give rise to Shikaras of submerged temples which link the new lakeside township with an historical one that was submerged by damming Satluj River, over 40 years ago. Gobind Sagar is India biggest artificial lake and has become a popular recreational water sport and fishing centre. Before its merger with Himachal Pradesh and the Indian Union in 1954, Bilaspur had existed as an independent princely state for about a thousand years.

REWALSAR
Rewalsar located on a mountain spur, an hour's drive from Mandi brings you to this dark jewel like lake. With water, woodland and high hills, it presents a variety of natural beauty and the spot is sacred for Hindus, Buddhists, Sikhs. It was from here that the great Indian teacher and tantric, Padmasabhava left for Tibet. Known to the Tibetans as Guru Rimpoche, the Previous Master. It was under Padmasambhava's influence that Mahayana Budhism spread over Tibet. There are islands of floating reed on Rewalsar Lake and the spirit of Padmasabhava is said to reside in them. It is here that the sage Lamas did penance in devotion to Lord Shiva and the Sikh Guru Gobind Singh also resided here for one month.

MONASTERIES
At opposite end of the lake there are two Tibetan monasteries. The Bhutanese also have one.
